Bush and Kerry

This Presidential Race is one of the most contentious that I can remember. Both sides are pulling out all the stops. The mud is flying and it keeps getting wilder and wilder. I wrote many months ago about my prediction for the Election and I called it a Bush victory and I'm sticking with my story. Never the less, it's time for an update. As I mentioned before, this has been one of the harder races for me to predict. I am putting all my political leanings aside as I offer this analysis for your perusal. Whatever happens, it's going to be REALLY INTERESTING, and I'm sure the result will be in alignment with some cosmic purpose. Remember, nothing is set in stone and even with the current influences; there are other possible outcomes. I'm just reporting what I consider to be the most likely results.

I want to offer a listing of astrological "Pros and Cons" that might help you understand the kind of process we astrologers go through when we're trying to figure things out. There are many methods that can be used to determine the outcome of an election. I can't use all of them, it would take way too long and you'd all be bored before the 10th page. So I'm going to condense matters by focusing on the most obvious and basic methods, which usually come out being the most important in the end anyway. Some of this you might find redundant if you've read my previous articles, but read it anyway, you've probably already forgotten what I said before and I'm always adding new stuff. Let me mention an interesting note: most of the astrologers I have heard from have overwhelming called this election a Kerry victory, so I am not going with the general consensus by calling it for Bush. Remember, this is my astrological analysis, not my political opinion. I respect everyone's right to think and vote as they see fit. And if I'm wrong, well it happens. So let's just look at it as an interesting experiment and see what happens.

Let's start our Pros and Cons with George W. Bush.

The Pros for Bush

George W's Sun Sign is 13ºs Cancer. Coincidently, this is the same degree and sign for the Sun of our Country. America has a 13º Cancer Sun. Now this might not seem that significant to you, but it seems rather fateful and certainly indicates that in many ways, whether you like it or not, George W. Bush has a very strong connection and resemblance to what our country is all about and what it's going through now. For some this could mean that what you don't like about Bush is what bothers you about our country and conversely, what you do like about him is what you like about the USA. In either case, Bush and America have something in common.

I also wanted to note another interesting "coincidence". Bush's 13º Cancer Sun, and America's for that matter, are conjunct to the star Sirius. Sirius is one of the most powerful stars, the symbol of chiefs and leaders. This is a very auspicious symbol and may be the reason some of the founding fathers, who were Masons and new about Metaphysics, decided to use July 4th as the birth date of our country. Bush's Sun is only a degree away from another important star, Canopus, the Path Finder, which also symbolizes leadership and the ability to show the way to others. There's a lot of "Fate" working here. I'm not trying to say I understand what it all means, but it's intriguing.

On Election Day the Moon will be in the sign of Cancer. The Moon represents the public at large, and puts an emotionally backed spotlight on whatever it lines up with. The Moon will be lining up with America's Sun and with George Bush's Sun shortly after the polls open on November 2, 2004. This could increase his influence on the public. The Sun in Scorpio on Election Day will trine Bush's Sun and will line up in an exact conjunction to his Part of Fortune in the 4th House. The Part of Fortune can indicate an especially fortunate influence in a person's life. Bush's Part of Fortune in the 4th house would indicate a powerful and beneficial influence from his family. That's pretty obvious considering who his dad is. So, the fact the Sun will be shining directly on Bush's Part of Fortune at 10º Scorpio seems significant.

Saturn in Cancer has been "schooling" Bush in the error of his ways for many months now. He's weathered the storm thus far, and he may have learned from some of his mistakes. Saturn has certainly toughened him up a bit. Bush will be at the height of his Saturn Return around Election time, which is an extremely important and fateful time in life. It represents a time of karmic payback. It can, in some instances, indicate a time of power and important transitions. This could actually be considered favorable for Bush, if indeed he has learned something from his past and is ready to make more responsible choices in the future. Saturn is a planet associated with leaders and government and if Bush has made peace with Saturn, it will probably help him gain control.

Jupiter and Venus are conjunct in Bush's progressed chart, which can indicate positive vibrations and a time of benefit. This seems like a minor one, but it could figure in, since it's been an ongoing influence for a while and probably does help him keep afloat.

In Vedic or Hindu Astrology Bush is currently in a Saturn/Jupiter Dasha that will last through 2006. From what I gather, that's considered positive in many ways. Saturn Dashas aren't exactly easy, but they do correspond to times of duty and responsibility and positions of power and leadership. The Jupiter part of the equation adds an element of success and benefit.

The Cons for Bush

Bush has been going through powerful Saturn transits for many months and could be exhausted. He might be feeling pretty stymied by now. The influence of Saturn may have also contributed to his downturn in popularity, as people have been seeing his limitations and burdens more prominently than his strong points of late. If Bush is really out of sync with his own karma and really hasn't been in integrity with his choices, his Saturn Return this fall could knock him right out of the White House. It just depends, and since none of us can really know whether or not he is in line with his own destiny, we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Bush's more conservative, inwardly oriented Cancer Sun may not make him seem as interesting and dynamic as his fiery Sagittarian competitor, Kerry. In a popularity contest, a Water Sign like Bush would tend to be at a disadvantage. Cheney's lack of public charm doesn't help much either. However, there are things about Bush's Cancerian demeanor that make him seem more "homey" and down-to-earth in some ways, which for Middle American, is probably a plus.

Bush's Progressed Sun in Virgo is exactly conjunct his Natal Mars in the 2nd House. This could certainly symbolize the intense focus and problems facing Bush having to do with war (Mars), and the economy (2nd House). It puts Bush in a "battle stations" kind of mode, which can make it a very dangerous time for him. This conjunction has been getting closer and closer over the past few years and seems to be one of the defining elements of his presidency to date. It both draws aggression to him and makes him aggressive in return. In many ways, Bush has had one of the hardest 1rst terms of any President having to deal with something of the magnitude of 9/11, not to mention all the controversy over the 2000 Election itself. With the Progressed Sun finally exactly conjunct his Natal Mars, it could symbolize the height of his difficulties. I must add, one could also interpret it as Warrior energy that could actual help him overcome enemies. I'll leave it up to you. Mull it over.

Saturn in Cancer squaring Bush's Aries Mid-Heaven will not make things easy for him on the way to Election Day. This could mean that Bush has to make a huge effort to get into alignment with his purpose. Relationships will be tested. His position will be challenged. He will be forced to reevaluate and refine his goals. Many adjustments will be required of him if he hopes to continue on his present career path.

If Bush is re-elected he will still have to contend with the curse of Tecumseh, which is supposed to be responsible for the deaths of all Presidents elected in years that end with 0. Bush was elected in 2000. Apparently, Chief Tecumseh uttered this curse to all US "chiefs" ruling in the years after the battle of Tippecanoe to remind the American people of the destruction of his people every 20 years. The curse seems to have worked pretty darn well to date. Ronald Reagan was the only President who had escaped the curse thus far, but strangely, he did die this year during the reign of another President who was elected in a "0" year. Perhaps Reagan's astrologers helped him beat the curse. I doubt Bush will be getting any astrological advice, but I understand there are many prayer groups nation wide that have been working to offset any harm that might come to him from the curse. Truth really is stranger than fiction.

Transiting Uranus in the 8th House will oppose Bush's Sun in the 2nd House in April of 2005 and will hang around most of the year. This could be just the kind of transit Tecumseh was hoping for. It could also indicate the loss of a loved one, perhaps his father. I don't like making gloomy predictions, but this is a volatile transit that can be very tricky, especially when faster moving planets join in and stir things up. He's going to have to be VERY CAREFUL next year, whether he gets re-elected or not.

The Pros for Kerry

As I mentioned earlier, John Kerry is a Sagittarius and Sag folks are known to be dynamic, competitive, philosophical, good at debate, courageous, and expansive. Fire sign people have charisma, which is what still makes Leo Bill Clinton popular today, even after all the troubles he had. So Kerry has the benefit of a Sagittarius Sun and Sagittarius Rising, along with his Sun conjunct the Rising Sign or Ascendant in the first house. This Sun position makes him a bit like a Leo, as the Sun rules Leo and is emphasized in Kerry's personality. It also makes him a bit like an Aries, as it emphasizes the 1rst House, which Aries rules. In a nutshell, this fiery conglomeration makes Kerry bold, bigger than life, energetic, and powerful. He doesn't seem to have the same kind of "fire power" that Clinton had, but he definitely has some.

Transiting Pluto in Sagittarius has crossed Kerry's Ascendant and is finishing up a conjunction to Kerry's Sun. Pluto can cause a lot of problems, which I will get to later when I go over the "Cons", but it also can confer great power to individuals who rise to the occasion and take on great tasks. Pluto is probably giving Kerry a "do or die" kind of stamina that will keep him pumped up all the way to the finish line. When a person goes through strong Pluto transits, as Kerry has recently, the saying "if it doesn't kill you it will make you stronger" certainly applies. It's trial by fire and if you are able to walk through the flames you may emerge victorious and seemingly invincible. Kerry seems to have harnessed some of Pluto's power and it certainly has made him a formidable adversary.

On Election Day transiting Jupiter will be nearly conjunct Kerry's Mid-Heaven (career, status, recognition), having moved into his 10th House. This is usually considered the mother load of good career indicators. Jupiter is also Kerry's ruling planet and this might mean that Kerry does particularly well when Jupiter is shining on him.

The Sun in Scorpio will transit Kerry's 11th house (groups, helpful people, hopes and dreams). This could indicate lots of positive energy coming to him from associates and the public that could help him actualize his own goals.

The Cons for Kerry

In Kerry's birth chart his Sun in Sagittarius opposes his Moon and Saturn in Gemini. This suggests difficulty with emotions, control issues, and a host of problems in relationships, as the Moon and Saturn occupy the 7th House of marriage and partnerships and oppositions signify trouble. Perhaps Kerry has worked out many of this problems with his mother, but I'll be my bottom dollar his marriage isn't an easy one and his wife could be a very intense and controlling person. The real problem is John Edwards. His Gemini Sun fits right into Kerry's pattern of difficulty in relationships. I think this is very fateful, but it indicates lack of peace and harmony in their relationship, which of course, would be a problem.

Pluto in Sagittarius has certainly made Kerry a man with a mission, but Pluto has also been beating the you-know-what out of some of his relationships and has brought out some "open enemies" who are out for blood. He's gearing up for yet another powerful and challenging Pluto transit, as Pluto is just about ready to oppose Kerry's natal Saturn. Pluto opposing Saturn is often considered a time of defeat and loss. Kerry will try to control things, but it could be overwhelming. On Election Day Pluto is at 20ºs Sagittarius, which is still within orb for the conjunction to his Sun, opposition to his Moon, and the opposition to his Saturn. That's a lot of Pluto, folks. And Pluto sometimes giveth, but more often seems to taketh away, or destroy. We shall see.

Kerry's philosophical Sagittarius nature may make him seem lofty, idealistic, and a bit separate from your "Average Joe/Jane" kind of American. This could be a bit of a draw back for him. His emphasis in Mutable Signs, i.e. Sagittarius and Gemini may cause some to think of him as changeable, two-sided, or vacillating in his opinions and presentation of the issues. .

Synopsis

As you can see, both men have some pretty tough astrological influences to contend with. Saturn for Bush and Pluto for Kerry. It's a tough call, but I still see a few more points on the positive side for Bush, so that's what I think will happen. There are some wild transits happening in September and October that will really stir things up. September 28, 2004 has an intense and violent feeling. The end of October does, too. I hate to even thing about more war or terrorist attacks, but things will be tense and something big could flare up. I do think the Presidential Election will go as planned. If it doesn't, that could change everything. So, there it is. You've seen my logic and I really don't have any attachment about being right. I just wanted to put it out there. Whew!

President Clinton

I looked at Clinton's chart right when they announced his quadruple bi-pass surgery. It looks like he'll make it through pretty well, but transiting Uranus just conjuncted the cusp of his 8th house, which can suddenly bring up potentially life-threatening events. I wish him luck. Maybe it's Tecumseh again.
