10/05/03 When someone asks you what sign you are they are really just asking what your Sun Sign is. This has to do with where the Sun is on the date of your birth. But there are a lot of other things in your birth chart that are just as interesting. The Moon was also in a sign at your date and time of birth. The Moon has to do with your inner nature, as opposed to your Sun Sign, which has to do with your conscious sense of self and basic energy drive. Let’s not underestimate the significance of the Sun Sign. It is the cornerstone of your chart. But the Moon can open many interesting doors to the inner dimensions of your psyche and is worth investigating. The Moon is Yin principle; the circumstances and conditions under which Yang energy of the Sun can manifest. The Moon is the womb; it contains and nurtures energies and prepares them to manifest in the world. It is like a crystal that energy passes through. It magnifies and amplifies qualities coming from the deep self. The Moon in the natal chart denotes our attitude about being here on planet earth in a body. A strong Moon placement helps the person feel confident about who they are. Difficulty with the Moon can make a person feel alienated and alone. A problem Moon can make you feel justified only by what you do, not by what you are. The Moon indicates we feel about where we come from; our roots, our family of origin, our country. It has to do with ideas and behaviors we absorbed and learned from a very early age, perhaps even in the womb. The Moon represents unconscious assumptions we have made about life. The Moon is best understood through feelings and emotions. Lunar energy goes on autopilot. It is the patterning of energy, not the use of the energy. The Moon indicates how you perceive things psychically. The Moon represents the people of a nation, not the ruler. A well-placed Moon indicates someone who appeals to the masses. The Moon is the doorway to the Yin part of the universe, the world, ourselves. If you fix your Moon, then you can express your Sun. How do you fix your Moon? Give it what it wants and needs. Make it comfortable. Stop running away from it. Give it some attention. House position indicates an area where your needs may be expressed more pointedly. Your Lunar nature shows how the world listens to you. The House position could indicate an area where you could affect the public. If you’re depressed do the things that your Moon sign and house like to do. The Moon also indicates how you listen to others, and how you respond to them, on a primal level. What does your Moon Sign say about you? The Moon Sign indicates a person’s emotional side. It is unconscious, instinctive, habitual, and receptive. The Moon has a lot to do with what makes you tick. The Moon Sign determines your emotional response to the outer world and other people. The Moon is your “vibe”. It is something other people sense about you, but perhaps don’t see on the surface. The Moon changes signs every 2 ½ days or so and if you haven’t ever had your chart done you will have to have an astrologer do one for you to get the definitive answer about what you Moon Sign is. Window to the Here and Now: Center yourself through some simple meditation and tune in to your inner state. What does it feel like? Get the mind and the will out of the way and sense your body and emotions. Once you identify your inner state you can sit with it for a while and see what it is as an observer. Later perhaps you can reflect on your impressions and get some clarity about your Moon. Instincts and habits: The Moon influences our instincts and habits. These are things you do that are autopilot; you don’t have to think about it, you just do it. For a Leo Moon person it might be letting loose and playing with kids, or just being a big kid and acting out for attention. For a Cancer Moon person it might be cooking, care-taking, and playing the mommy role for friends. Needs: The Moon Sign can also let you know where you go to get your needs met. Fantasy and escape Our Society is not Moon oriented, but more oriented to the Sun. The Sun speaks of identity, individualism, manifested energy, and projection of the self into the world. The Sun wants to do and perform. The Moon, on the other hand just wants to be. We spend a lot of time trying to run away from our own inner nature. We want to analyze it, put it into therapy, hide it, and tame it. Awareness of the deep self is not necessarily what we are told we need to do to have a balanced life. We are told to perform, conform, and achieve, not to respond, resonate, and experience. While the Sun in the natal chart can tell us who you are and what you are here to do, the Moon will let us know how you are going to feel about yourself and how you will respond to others.
