| Spring Equinox 2004
3/19/04 On Friday, March 19, 2004 at 10:49pm the Sun will enter the sign of Aries and Spring Equinox will arrive. For those on the east coast the Equinox will arrive on March 20, 2004, at 1:49am. So, what does this mean to you and me? Spring marks a time of beginnings. The sign of Aries is the 1rst sign of the zodiac, representing new starts, courage, and forward momentum. It is a time of green leaves pushing through the snow, and new thought emerging from stillness, and action replacing repose. In other words, it’s time to get moving! This weekend is the perfect time to set your intentions for the months to come. Do something unique or unusual to mark the entrance of spring into your reality. Go see a concert, go dancing, go to a drumming circle, go to a special church service, or do something out in nature. But don’t just sit around acting like nothing has changed. On another note, the Virgo Moon in me wants to tell you that there is something really healing and cathartic about “spring cleaning”. This is the perfect time to go through your closest, the garage, your drawers, and your computer files and throw out all the junk! Anything you can do to let go of the past and lighten your load will help you get into the spirit of springing forward. It can also be a time of spiritual cleansing and even physical purification. If you’ve wanted to invest some time and energy into things that you know will be spiritually The Chart for Spring Equinox 2004 This Equinox is different in that we get a two for one deal, given that the New Moon on Saturday, March 20, 2004, joins the Sun at 0º’s Aries, within 24 hours. So, we get an Equinox and a powerful New Moon in Aries at for the same price! What does it mean? It means the “new start” energy is going ballistic and you better jump on the train!. So here is a synopsis of the Spring Equinox Chart. Remember, this represents the energy pattern for the next three months, but on a larger level, since the spring is a little like a mini “New Year”, it has a larger impact on the months to come in some ways. So lets take a look at which cosmic energies are at play. The Sun in Aries will sextile Mars in Taurus: This planetary combination will stimulate ideas and help put them into motion in a constructive way. It a representation of desire and will blended with energy and action. This cycle will be energizing and productive. The Sun in Aries will square Saturn in Cancer: Collectively, and individually, this can indicate a conflict or intensification of issues dealing with personal will vs. duty and responsibility. The square of the Sun and Saturn can indicate a heightened sense of tension between the rights and desires of the individual, contrasted and contradicted by the control and order imposed by the “powers that be” or those in authority. I expect this will be highlighted in world and national politics in situations that seem repressive and unfair to rights of the individual. In our personal lives, it can represent the same kind of push and pull that occurs when what we want on a personal level is somehow being blocked, pre-empted, or controlled by some outer force beyond our control. It’s a frustrating energy, but guess what? It’s can turn into motivation very easily. It’s a “when the going gets tough, the tough get going”, kind of thing. So turn your frustration into determination. It’s a better way to use the energy. If you find you are hitting some walls in work or personally, don’t get mad, get spiritually strong. Find your center, let go of negative thoughts, and channel the energy into creative, productive activity. The Moon in Pisces is exactly square Pluto in Sagittarius: This is not a particularly pleasant transit, but it has much depth. The Moon in Pisces represents the Goddess energy. It represents that which is spiritual, feminine, nurturing, artistic, healing, beautiful, vulnerable, innocent, and impressionable. Pluto in Sagittarius is powerful, forceful, opinionated, dogmatic, aggressive, competitive, and contentious. The struggle between the Moon and Pluto can represent a fundamental discrepancy between the needs of the disadvantaged and the agenda of those in power. In our personal lives this planetary pairing could represent coming in contact with internal blocks that affect our emotional equilibrium. When Pluto and the Moon are in conflict there is a need to get beneath the surface of emotional responses to life and search for the deeper meaning behind behavior. Issues may surface that point to the necessity to move past barriers to the next level with self-awareness. It can represent primal conflict between the drives of the ego and the needs of the soul. Use this energy to drop your impulse to control and move towards experiencing your true needs. Mercury in Aries sextile Neptune in Aquarius: This is an energizing combination that blends the burst of new and innovative thinking from Mercury in Aries with the humanitarian, altruistic, and cosmic influences of Neptune in Aquarius. Sounds fun, doesn’t it? We may see some big breakthroughs, new inventions, and forward thinking from people in the public eye in the months to come. In your own life, put your inspirations into actions and find ways to channel any unique or unusual ideas you’ve been hatching. Venus in Taurus trine Jupiter in Virgo: Venus, the Goddess or Love and Beauty is in her home sign, sensual, earthy, opulent Taurus. And on the Equinox, Venus will be in perfect harmony with Jupiter, the Santa Claus of the zodiac, in earthy, industrious, creative Virgo, the sexy virgin. This is a wonderful combination for creative people, as it blends the creative juices of Taurus with the work ethic of Virgo. It’s positive, feminine, artsy, and cool. This is a good time to get back in touch with your body, make art, decorate, put creative business ideas into play, or just enjoy being a soul in a body. This combo might stimulate some positive awareness about women, nature, and mother earth. Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn may feel especially blessed by this earthy combo. Venus in Taurus square Neptune in Aquarius: On a more universal level, this conflict between Venus and Neptune could bring out the more selfish attitudes of individuals who just want what they want, no matter how it might affect the environment or the needs of others. It can also indicate the tendency to allow emotions to override the intuition or higher mind. This combination can bring up difficulties in romantic ties, as it makes it hard to see the reality when emotions are involved. Check in with yourself and see if you are being “real” with your loved ones. Keep over-reactions and unrealistic demands in check when it comes to love. Mars in Taurus square Uranus in Pisces: Mars and Uranus don’t often get together without some fireworks, and when they are in a tense square, there’s usually conflict brewing. This could indicate an escalation in hostilities in the Middle East, and in other hot spots globally. Certainly, it will fuel the fires of discontent and may be an indication of more terrorist activity. In our personal lives, watch out for the tendency hold things in until the top blows off. If something is bothering you, say something or do something constructive about it. Communicate. With Mercury ready to go retrograde soon, this energy may spark violent reactions to miscommunication. So be aware and be the Peaceful Warrior and the Spiritual Warrior, not the head-knocker. The New Moon in Aries, March 20, 2004 Saturday at 2:42 pm PST the Equinox Sun and the New Moon will join together at 0º’s Aries. New starts upon new starts! This is time to reinvent yourself and put your ideas in motion. The impulse to forge ahead will be strong, but it will be tempered by a square to Saturn, which indicates the need for persistence and determination to overcome obstacles. Mercury Retrograde is coming! We are moving into the shadow of Mercury Retrograde on March 23, 2004. Mercury stations and turns retrograde on at 1º Taurus on April 6, 2004 at 1:18pm PDT. It stays retrograde until April 30th, and gets back to “normal” by about May 16th. That being said, there are a few things to keep in mind. This is a terrific time to tie up loose ends, connect with people from the past, finish things you started, and find your center. Communication, travel, new starts, contracts, computers, appliances, and cars can be a little more problematic than usual. Make sure you check and double check all appointments and be patient with others, as they may not remember where they are supposed to be either. If you are planning to launch a brand new project, you may wish to wait until mid-May if possible. Here are the dates of the “touchiest” days of this retrograde cycle: April 1rst through April 13th and April 24th through May 6th If you must travel during these date, be prepared for possible delays, missed flights, or messed up reservations. It doesn’t always do that way, but it’s just more likely, so keep that in mind. Be prepared, be patient, and be flexible and all will be well. The really big deal about Mercury Retrograde is COMMUNICATION. Be clear and try to trouble shoot possible misunderstandings as they arise. Remember, this happens 3 times a year, so we have to embrace the energy and flow with it. It may be more significant for Taurus and Aries folks, so take note. Full Moon in Libra on April 5, 2004 The Full Moon on April 5th 2004 will occur right in the midst of Mercury’s change of direction. Without being an alarmist, I must say, the days immediately around April 5th and 6th are going to be WILD! Keep your cool through the intensity and channel the energy into positive activities. Expect people to be a little crazier and potentially scattered during this high-energy period. It should be fun, but it will also present a challenge to keeping your balance. Mark it on your calendar and watch it unfold.
